Methionine, DL-homocysteine thiolactone and n-acetyl-DL-methionine for ruminants.

چکیده
Plasma amino acid response of wethers to abomasal infusions of DL-methionine (DLM), DL-homocysteine thiolactone-HCl (HCTL) and N-acetyl-DL-methionine (NAM), in vivo rumen stability of the latter two methionine analogs and preintestinal absorption of HCTL were studied. The daily infusion of 1.06 g of DLM elevated molar percentage of methionine and lysine in plasma'and decreased molar percentage of threonine. Infusion of equal molar quantities of NAM and HCTL resulted in increased plasma methionine 1 hr. post-infusion. The oral administration of HCTL and NAM resulted in abomasal recoveries of only 10.5 and 15.7%, respectively; however, the methionine in abomasal fluid was significantly (P< .05) increased when HCTL was orally administered. Plasma methionine increased significantly following the intraruminal administration of HCTL to wethers with a ligated pyloric sphincter, but the intraruminal addition of methionine had no effect on plasma methionine.

Fibrillin-2 defects impair elastic fiber assembly in a homocysteinemic chick model.
Homocysteinemia in humans is associated with vascular complications that increase the risk for atherosclerosis and stroke. Animal studies have shown that the disease is multifactorial and includes lesions associated with the elastin component of the extracellular matrix. In the following experiments we have used the aortas from rapidly growing chicks to assess the cause of the elastin defects r...
متن کاملBioavailability comparison between herbal methionine and DL-methionine on growth performance and immunocompetence basis in broiler chickens
BACKGROUND:Herbal methionine can be compared relative toDl-methionine with evaluation of bioavailability of this source ofmethionine. OBJECTIVES: An experiment was carried out todetermine the relative bioefficacy of herbal methionine (H-Met)®relative to DL-methionine (DL-Met) on performance criteria andimmunocompetence of Met sources in male broilers. Atotal of 160male broilers were fed a Met-d...
متن کاملHomocysteine thiolactone and protein homocysteinylation in human endothelial cells: implications for atherosclerosis.
Editing of the nonprotein amino acid homocysteine by certain aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases results in the formation of the thioester homocysteine thiolactone. Here we show that in the presence of physiological concentrations of homocysteine, methionine, and folic acid, human umbilical vein endothelial cells efficiently convert homocysteine to thiolactone. The extent of this conversion is directly ...
متن کاملBio-efficacy comparison of herbal-methionine and DL-methionine based on performance and blood parameters of broiler chickens
This study was conducted to compare the bio-efficacy of herbal methionine (H-Met) relative to DL-methionine (DL-Met) on 160 “Ross 308” broiler chickens. DL-Met and H-Met were added to the basal diet in eight experimental treatments with three and four concentrations respectively in starter, grower and finisher period. Blood parameters which were measured at 24 and 42 days of age consisted of: s...
متن کاملEffect of excess methionine and methionine hydroxy analogue on growth performance and plasma homocysteine of growing Pekin ducks.
One experiment was conducted to study the effect of excess dl-methionine (DLM) and dl-2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid free acid (dl-HMB-FA) on duck growth. One-day-old male white Pekin ducklings were fed common starter diets from hatch to 21 d of age and then fed the experimental diets from 21 to 42 d of age. Three hundred twenty 21-d-old birds were allotted to 40 raised wire-floor pens wit...
